Eight Years In: What I Finally Know About Super Bowl Wing Parties (2026)

Last updated

Eight Super Bowl wing parties. Thirty-plus vendors tested. This is what I finally know.

The 2026 Spread

Angelina's

Same as every year: two or three pies (this year: Sicilian, vodka, grandma), plus heros. Still the most reliable vendor I've ever ordered from. If you have an Angelina's in your neighbourhood, this becomes non-negotiable.

Holy Cow Sliders

Mix-and-match slider box. Chicken and beef. Kept for the second year running because they held up in 2025.

B.BQ (Korean)

Six wing styles this year: Gangnam Style, Caribbean Spice, Gangjeong, Secret Sauce, Golden Original, plus a repeat of the 2025 crowd favourite. If 2025 was the discovery year for Korean wings at my party, 2026 was the year I built the spread around them.

Atomic Wings / BWW GO / Wing Stop

Chain baseline again. Mango Habanero, Atomic, Jerk BBQ, Buffalo Medium (reduced order after last year's leftover), Teriyaki, plus the mixed traditional box across six chain sauces.

House of Wings

Six styles: Thai chili, teriyaki, spicy BBQ, honey mustard, stinging honey garlic, Korean BBQ. Ordered as a test. Verdict: chicken quality is genuinely great — better fry than most chains. Sauces were unremarkable, roughly on par with BWW. Would order again for the chicken quality, not for the sauces.

Rocco's Sausage & Cheesesteaks

Same as 2025. Sausage and peppers, Philly cheesesteak. Non-wing insurance for the fourth-quarter hero eaters.

Austin Ale House (backup only)

Jamaican Orange Buffalo. Insurance again. Not needed. Ordered anyway because the 2024 lesson is permanent.

Mad for Chicken (recovered from 2024)

Signature half/half wings. Confirmed twice, arrived on time. Some vendors deserve a second chance if their previous failure was a one-off.

The Framework Distilled

Volume: 10 wings per guest

Up from 8. Between the increased spice tolerance and the delivery-app portion inflation (an "order of 8 wings" is often really 6-7), you need more than you think.

Sauce distribution: 25/25/20/15/15

  • 25% classic buffalo
  • 25% Korean or Korean-adjacent (Gangnam, gochujang, soy-garlic)
  • 20% chain signature (Atomic, Mango Habanero, Buffalo Wild Wings' Blazin')
  • 15% dry rub (lemon pepper, garlic parm, cajun)
  • 15% wildcard (jerk, Nashville hot, five-spice, whatever's interesting locally)

Vendors: 5 to 7 total

Two chains, two locals, one Korean or Korean-adjacent, one non-wing food (pizza, sliders, sandwiches), one backup that's ordered but expected to be unused. Everything above 7 vendors is chaos; anything below 5 is monotony.

Confirmation protocol

Every non-chain vendor is called at order time, texted 48 hours out, and confirmed again the morning of. Any vendor that doesn't confirm twice gets replaced by the backup.

Pickup logistics

One centralised driver doing a 45-minute loop for three local pickups. Delivery apps for the rest. Chain wings get ordered on 90-minute lead time. Everything arrives by 5:30pm for a 6:30 kickoff. Wings that arrive after kickoff are already lost.

What the host does during the game

Nothing. If you're refilling wing platters after kickoff, you've overplanned the labour and underplanned the equipment. Chafing dishes with sterno, or serving trays in a warm oven, keep wings hot for two hours without host intervention.

What I Wish I'd Known in 2018

  1. The sauces you think are the crowd default aren't anymore.
  2. Local vendors fail unpredictably; chains fail predictably. Weight your order accordingly.
  3. Nobody remembers the fourth mediocre wing. They remember the first great one.
  4. Pizza is not a wing. But pizza is always the right backup.
  5. The best host is the one who's sitting down for the game.
Eight years in, the party is boring. That's the point.
